The Idea Behind My Website

I love fashion. I can appreciate fashion from all periods, except for the 2000s. Screw. The. 2000s. Anyways, one of my favorite decades for fashion is the 90s. Flannel, slip dresses, bomber jackets, and chokers were just some of the 90s trends that remain popular. My favorite sub-fashion of this decade was grunge.

Marc Jacob’s Perry Ellis collection cemented grunge as a fashion trend

I decided that since fashion blogs were not a thing during the 90s, I would create what one would have looked like in 1998.

Creating My Website

Since I would create this site from scratch using HTML, I used Sublime Text to write the code. I decided to make my website look as much like the 90s as possible while also looking aesthetically pleasing (cause that OCD is real). I picked the iconic squiggle pattern to be the background for my website. I went with the essential Times New Roman font since that was what was widely used on websites in the 90s. Font colors were chosen to complement the color of the squiggles in the background. Finally, since the background is primarily black, I decided to color the background of the text to make it easier to read (something not many retro websites did).

The Lesson

I decided to show my table mates how to embed a video into a website using essential editing tools (centering text, creating background color, and choosing font color). I would add two videos as examples, with a text box for the second one. I had an exciting time finding a video that would work on the site. Some videos would not play for some reason. I thought it was the time it came out or the length, but it seemed random.

To keep with the theme of 90s fashion, I chose runway show videos from between 1990 and 1998, when the site would be updating. I went with a Gucci Spring/Summer show from 1997 and the Perry Ellis 1993 Spring collection that launched Marc Jacob’s career.

Peer Teaching

After teaching the lesson to my peers, here is the final result:
